Focus and Scope

Open Praxis is a peer-reviewed open access scholarly journal focusing on research and innovation in open, distance and flexible education. It is published by the International Council for Open and Distance Education - ICDE.

The aim of Open Praxis is to provide a forum for global collaboration and discussion of issues in the practice of distance and e-learning.

Open Praxis welcomes contributions which demonstrate creative and innovative research, and which highlight challenges, lessons and achievements in the practice of distance and e-learning from all over the world.

An article may present research or surveys of recent work, describe original work, or discuss new technology and its possibilities, implications and/or other related issues.

Considering the international scope of the journal, contributions will be geographically and institutionally balanced:

  • Maximum 10% may be from an institution to which the Editor has an affiliation, i.e. UNED
  • Maximum 25% may be from the country of the Editor’s institution, i.e. Spain
  • Maximum 50% may be from the region, i.e. Europe
  • Minimum 25% should be from beyond the region and from a wide range of countries and regions.

Individual issues of Open Praxis will have an overarching theme, described in the call for papers. Contributions are, however, also invited on other topics which fall within the sphere of interest of the journal.

Open Praxis is a quarterly journal. Issues will be published in January, April, July and October.

Themes and deadlines for submission of articles will be announced on the Open Praxis and ICDE websites.

Open Access Policy
